The light frieze of the new building for the Kunstmuseum Basel has won the top distinction in this year's iF Design Award: the iF Gold Award 2017. From 5575 submissions, only 75 projects were honoured with a gold award by the independent expert jury. The jury stated:

'This project was a joy to observe. It was a great experience to discover the subtle but strong contrast simultaneously. The jury was fascinated to discover the logic hidden between the bricks. Also, the innovative way of blending modern technology and the historical context is very much appreciated.'

The light frieze won the award in the discipline 'Interior Architecture'. After the Media Architecture Biennale Award 2016, the Red Dot Award: Grand Prix 2016 and the Essence 16: Gold Award, this is the fourth prestigious distinction that the project has received.
