We are delighted that Beat Brogle has been awarded the 2026 Basel Region Media Art Prize for his work ZWEI. The mixed reality experience is the result of a successful collaboration between Brogle and iart, allowing Valentin Spiess and Elias Hodel (representing our entire MX team) to accept the prize at Theater Basel alongside the artist.

As a mixed reality experience, ZWEI consists of two virtual bubbles floating in public space. Viewed through MX goggles, they react to one another to the behavior of viewers. This complex interaction creates a new form of interaction between humans and virtual creatures and, technically speaking, makes algorithmic stimulus-response patterns tangible.

ZWEI was first presented at the mesh Festival Basel in autumn 2024 and was subsequently part of the Digital Art Mile during Art Basel 2025. The jury of the Basel Film and Media Art Prize selected the work from a total of 24 submitted media art projects.
