For the Swissmill silo and the Novartis building in Basel, iart implemented two interlinked colour-light installations in collaboration with a project team. The top rows of windows were backlit to create a continuous and colourful strip of light. Thus, the multi-storey buildings, located at opposite sides of the Rhine, formed a type of city gate. The installation reacted with changing colour-light gradients to the season and the Internet activity of the population of Basel.
The project stadtlicht, which was realized in December 2002, was supported by the Christoph Merian Foundation. A book on the stadtlicht project was published by Quart Verlag.
