Heroes of the Exhibition
Thanks to Px Batch and Brilliant Game Design, Visitors of ‘Hero Games’ at the Antikenmuseum Basel Discover the Legend Within Themselves.
In Short
With the exhibition ‘HERO GAMES’, the Antikenmuseum Basel is breaking new ground: like in a video game, visitors embark on an epic journey and master the most legendary adventures of the greatest heroes and heroines of ancient Greece. Thanks to the ‘PX Batch’ developed by iart and our compelling game design, the interactive exhibition experience is personalised, making it even more exciting.
The Start
Visitors are equipped with the intelligent PX Badge, which they can wear conveniently around their necks. This allows them to unlock the various game stations and automatically collect bonus points. The badge also includes an audio guide featuring Athena, the patron goddess of most Greek heroes. She introduces visitors to the game and prepares them to perform their tasks. The audio guide accompanies visitors throughout the entire exhibition.
1. Mission: ‘Medusa’
Just like the young Perseus, visitors must carefully sneak up on the demon Gorgo Medusa. If they move too quickly or jerkily, she will menacingly open her eyes. Score points will be deducted. The goal is to symbolically behead her without waking her up. This requires composure and concentration!
2. MISSION: THE ‘CALYDON BOAR’
The swift-footed and powerful huntress Atalanta once managed to kill the Calydonian Boar with a single arrow. Visitors hear the boar before they spot it in the thicket. They take aim and try to hit it with their bows and arrows. This requires accuracy and willpower!
3. MISSION: ‘KERBEROS’
The three-headed Cerberus guards the gates to Hades. Like Heracles before them, visitors attempt to tame the indomitable Cerberus: they pull on his leash with all their might, facing his three-voiced barking and fearsome appearance. Strength and endurance are required here!
4. MISSION: ‘MINOTAUROS’
Visitors must find their way through the labyrinth to the man-eating Minotaur. Like Theseus before them, they must defeat the bull-man. The proverbial thread of Ariadne makes the way back easier. Those who take too long lose points. Courage and determination are required here!
5. MISSION: ‘THE TROJAN HORSE’
Troy has been impregnable for ten years, now a brilliant idea is needed! Visitors construct the famous Trojan horse, once commissioned by the cunning Odysseus. Then it is pulled into the city... Outside the city walls, imagination and inventiveness are required!
6. MISSION: ‘MAGIC’
There are lots of things to see in the room of Medea, the most powerful sorceress in the world: jars, glasses, flasks... Visitors can enrich her famous rejuvenation potion with ingredients. They must follow the recipe strictly. This requires care and magic!
7. MISSION: ‘THE SPHINX’
The final mission takes visitors to the cruel Sphinx. She poses a riddle to everyone. Ignorance is punished with death. Once upon a time, only Oedipus possessed the mental power to defeat the monster. Now visitors must prove their logic and intellect!
GAME EVALUATION WITH THE ‘ORACLE OF DELPHI’
At the end of their journey, visitors arrive at sacred Delphi. Here, the game is evaluated by Apollo – the god of prophecy – and Pythia, his prophetess. In an oracle prophecy, she summarises the special abilities that visitors have demonstrated on their heroic journey. Visitors can take home a printout of both the game evaluation and the oracle prophecy.
