An exhibition at the Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel draws attention to the demolition culture in the construction industry. According to the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), the construction industry is responsible for 84 percent of the waste in Switzerland. Every second, over 500kg of construction waste is produced in Switzerland through the demolition of buildings.

The exhibition was curated by the Verein Countdown 2030. It was based on the entries of the Demolition Atlas, in which the association documents buildings that are demolished in Switzerland.

iart supports the exhibition with several installations: a countdown that displays the time remaining until 2030; a “countup” that shows how many kilograms of construction waste have been produced in Switzerland since the exhibition opened; and a ticket system that shows visitors how much construction waste was produced during their visit to the exhibition.
