Showing How It's Done.

DigiCulture supports the digital development of cultural organisations in Aargau. To showcase the initiatives’ achievements to date, we were commissioned to design three cabinets for the Grand Council building in Aarau. Politicians can thus gain a vivid, three-dimensional impression of DigiCulture at a glance.

The process was special in that it was led not only by experienced staff but also by our trainee interactive media designer. She was responsible for the professional design of the display cases, thereby making the project a testament to our ability to train young talent and entrust them with responsibility. Together with DigiCulture, we are delighted with the successful outcome.

The cabinets share a common design but differ in their thematic focus. First, DigiCulture’s various services are explained. Next, projects that have been successfully supported are showcased. Finally, a completed project is presented in greater depth through the virtual extension of a painting using animated films.

All three cabinets feature a virtual extension of the printed content via a tablet. This brings the visual motifs on the posters to life and supplements them with textual information. Two-dimensional content is transformed into three-dimensional, dynamic information.

The installation offers an accessible approach that relies on the interplay between physical cabinets and digital information on tablets. In doing so, it not only explains how cultural institutions communicate in a contemporary way, but also demonstrates this in practice.
