Virtually Augmented City Model For Cockpit Exhibition Space

Dreispitz, the former industrial area in Basel, has changed significantly in recent years - and it will continue to undergo major changes in the years to come. As the owner of the site, the Christoph Merian Foundation is playing a major role in transforming it into a diverse urban district for creative industries, commerce, consumption, leisure and living.

This development can be experienced on a huge wooden model during guided tours in the Cockpit exhibition space. A tablet is provided to control two projections: on the one hand, a wall projection, and on the other, a projection that is superimposed on the model from above. In this way, very different demographic, historical and urban development aspects can be made visible directly on the model. This content comes from a customised content management system. It allows the presentations to be flexibly rearranged via web browser and thus adapted to different visitor groups. With a simple finger movement over the graphic surface of the tablet, one can also draw freely and thus illustrate one's own explanations live via the projection.
