Multimedia Room for 'Paul Gauguin' Offers Magic Moments of Discovery

For the exhibition 'Paul Gauguin' (February 8 to June 28, 2015), for the first time in its history, the Fondation Beyeler will have a multimedia mediation room. With a unique combination of physical and virtual elements, Gauguin's life and work can be explored in fun ways. iart has conceived, designed, and implemented the multimedia room on behalf of and in collaboration with the Fondation Beyeler.

The multimedia room for Paul Gauguin employs digital media in intelligent ways but without foregrounding them. "In the age of smartphones, we need new media concepts for communication in space that are very close to the physical world," as Valentin Spiess, the CEO of iart, explains. "By combining the possibilities of digital and analog media, we have created a room that can speak to all of the senses and enable visitors to approach Gauguin's life and work in playful ways. It is an attempt to rematerialize the digital world, to lend it a tactile quality."
