HELGA 2019: 'Ausser Haus'

The second HELGA in Basel took place on 10 May 2019 under the title 'Ausser Haus' (Off-Site). This year, the focus was on scenography in public and non-commercial spaces. The symposium began at the Academy of Art and Design FHNW, where more than two hundred guests from all over Switzerland attended an inspiring programme. Due to the thematic focus, landscape architects, architects and urban planners were increasingly involved. In their lectures, three input speakers explored the topic from the perspective of their respective disciplines and then deepened it in a stimulating panel discussion. In the format 'Leider nicht von uns' (Unfortunately not by us), groundbreaking projects by others in the field were praised.

With the kind support of the IKEA Foundation Switzerland, a project to promote young talent was implemented for the first time in 2019 as a supplement to the main programme. During the event, students were given the opportunity to present a project that fits the topic and thus take a first step into the scenography community.

Afterwards guests were invited to continue the discussions in a relaxed atmosphere on the steps of Fluxdock and to enjoy the get-together with a delicious dinner and a glass of wine.

HELGA changes cities every three years. In 2020 it will be organised by iart — together with EMYL, Fluxdock, Groenlandbasel and Netwerch — for the last time in Basel. We are already looking forward to a great event!
